Mississippi County

July 15, 2019

This week, the show traveled to Charleston, MO; county seat of Mississippi County. Our guests Commissioner James Conn and Mississippi County Historical Society President Tom Graham were kind enough to speak with us in the (twice burned) historic Mississippi County Courthouse.

Mr. Graham told us tales of Mississippi County’s early history, from its American Indian beginnings to its first landowner being a woman.

Mr. Conn spoke on Mississippi County’s modern involvement, from the intense high school sport rivalries to how the county’s farms deal with the flooding of the Mississippi River.

Going in-depth into the importance of the county to Ulysses S. Grant in the Battle of Belmont and the mysterious burning of the county’s courthouse, the show had an amazing time hearing the rich history of Mississippi County.
